This is the APM 180mm F7 APO Triplet with TMB designed lens. Shown for scale with a Celestron CGE mount, and a Meade 16" Lightbridge and a 12" LX90 just behind
It is with sadness that we learned recently of the passing of Thomas M Back, whose legacy in the quality of his optical designs - such as this one - will live on. He was only 50 years old. Condolences to his family and many friends in the astronomical community.
APM 180/1260 CNC-LW II APO Telescope
It has 5 mm bigger aperture and shorter FL than the 175/F8 which results in better transportability and faster imaging speed with a wider field. The color correction and optical quality do not differ visibly from the APM 175 F/8. You will be able to see planets detail you have never seen before. It's an excellent CCD imaging machine as well. The newly designed, lighter CNC tube permits usage of this large APO on transportable, medium sized mounts.
The tube rings are flat on both sides and offer five tapped 1/4-20" holes perpendicular to the tube line with one centered. The middle two hole's center to center spacing is 60 mm (2.362") and outer two hole's spacing is 3.2" (Astro-Physics standard).
